Junior and Senior Forest Technician

Iverson Forest Management Inc. (IFMI), is a dynamic forestry consulting firm which has been operating for over 25 years throughout BC.  We have developed strong relationships with First Nations, forest licensees, Economic Development Corporations and many other industry associates.  This has allowed us to complete a diverse and interesting array of projects in the Forestry and Natural Resource Development sectors.  Above all, we take pride in delivering quality services to our clients, in a safe and efficient manner, while fostering a team oriented environment.  IFMI has two offices on Vancouver Island, with our headquarters located in Duncan and our northern operations based in Campbell River.

We have an immediate opening for a Forest Technician to join our Duncan operation.

The successful candidate will be an integral member of our team, responsible for all phases of project work including initial office planning, field reconnaissance, cutblock and road layout for conventional and helicopter harvesting operations, crew supervision, quality control, safety program implementation, client liaison, and completion of project related office work.

GIS mapping experience is considered an asset for this position as suitably experienced applicants will have the opportunity to assume significant GIS mapping duties in support of our project work; in addition to the field work components of this job.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or technical diploma in Forestry; with registration (or eligibility for registration) with the ABCFP
  • Minimum of 3-5 years Forest Engineering experience, preferably in coastal BC
  • Solid working knowledge of Forestry Legislation and Regulations in BC (e.g. FRPA, Forest Act etc.)
  • Proficiency with computer software including RoadEng, Word, and Excel
  • A valid BC Driver’s License
  • Good communication skills and experience in crew supervision
  • GPS surveying experience
  • Operational mapping experience using ArcGIS software is highly desirable for this position
