Reporting to the Associate Health Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for cleaning and minor maintenance duties according to established Accreditation Canada and general cleanliness standards. This is a full time permanent position that works at Ts’ewulhtun’s three locations including the main Health Center building and the Elder’s building on Allenby Road and the Kwun’atsustul Mental Health office at 200 Cowichan Way.


  • Ensure the overall standard of cleanliness of all assigned buildings
  • Maintain cleanliness of floors by vacuuming, washing, and shampooing using various power and hand cleaning equipment
  • Prepare cleaning, preservative, disinfectant solutions, and apply according to Material Safety Data Sheet (M.S.D.S) information
  • Prepare order list of required janitorial supplies
  • Collect and dispose of refuse and maintain clean refuse areas
  • Regularly dust, clean, wipe and/or polish windows, blinds, sills, doors, bathroom, and other building surfaces, walls, fixtures, and furniture
  • Maintain and clean parking lots and sidewalks including snow removal using hand and powered brooms, rakes, and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow and other refuse
  • Complete minor maintenance duties in all assigned buildings
  • Perform various minor repairs on plumbing and electrical fixtures, buildings, grounds, furniture, and other equipment
  • Open and lock doors, check security equipment and report deficiencies, unsafe or faulty equipment immediately to the Associate Health Director
  • Arrange furniture for special events in meeting areas, maintain various logs, key registers, janitorial supply, and other records
  • Other related duties

Required Education and Experience: (Please attach all corresponding documents)

  • Completion of Grade 12 Graduation
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification and First Aid / CPR-C
  • 2-years janitorial experience
  • Must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
  • Criminal Record Check (C.R.C.)
  • Certification of Building Service Work program – considered an asset

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Organizational skills
  • Time management with the ability to multitask different tasks simultaneously
  • Physically able to lift and move refuse cans, cleaning equipment, furniture and other items
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment operation, cleaning product usage, and safe product mixtures
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under minimal supervision
