Classification / Hours: Full-Time, Term (April 3, 2018 – March 29, 2019)
Salary Range: $17.00 per hour
Reports to: Daycare Manager

Cowichan Tribes is the largest First Nation band in British Columbia compromised of seven tradition villages: Kw’a’mutsun, Qw’umiyiqun’, Xwulqw’selu, S’amuna, Lhumlhumuluts’, Xinupsum and Tl’ulpalus. We have delegated responsibilities to provide Cowichan members services in child and family services, health, housing, membership and social development.

Le’lum’uy’lh Daycare’s mission is to provide quality child care by fostering the children’s intellectual, social, physical, emotional and cultural development. Le’lum’uy’lh Daycare is licensed to provide early learning up to 93 children between the ages 0 – 5 years old. We strive to create safe and supportive environment, develop and implement age appropriate activities, and when possible incorporate experiences that promote the Cowichan Tribes language, culture and traditions.

The Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) Trainee will have excellent communication skills and demonstrates an energetic, nurturing and sensitive attitude that encourages healthy childhood development. You must be physically able to carry out child care functions (standing, bending, crouching and lifting up to 45 lbs.), maintain a positive attitude and uphold confidentiality within a busy team-based environment.

As an ECEA Trainee you will perform a variety of activities (including but not limited to):

  • Assisting with classroom activities
  • Supervising on field trips and playground time
  • Providing support at meal and nap times
  • Instilling healthy and independent practices with children

Quw’utsun Employment and Training (QET) is funding this work experience opportunity to allow the successful candidate(s) gain transferable early childhood education skills. You are strongly encouraged to apply if you are aspiring to pursue further studies as an ECE or just starting a career in early childhood education.

Our ideal candidate successfully meets the following qualifications:

  • Must be a Cowichan Tribes Member and at least 18 years of age (as per Child Care Licensing Regulations)
  • Grade 10 Education is required; one ECE Course and First-Aid Certificate is considered an asset
  • Criminal Record Check is required
