Cowichan Independent Living is a non-profit society offering extensive services for persons with disabilities, including information, referrals, peer support, advocacy mentoring, assessment, adaptive recreation, parking placards, CV income tax preparation, work experience, volunteer opportunities, networking, groups and activities for persons with disabilities, and medical equipment loans by donation.

The Right Candidate Will:

Fund Development – Seek out donations and potential funds through sponsorship and grants, promote CIL at community events (these may happen on weekends and unscheduled days), attend workshops and other learning sessions to help bring awareness to our Centre.

Volunteer Coordinator – Seek potential volunteers to fill vacant positions, work closely with current volunteers to ensure smooth operation. Work on Volunteer of the Month program and upkeep with volunteer perks and appreciation.

Advocacy Assistant – Help with Part 1 of the PWD process, gather information, assist clients through the process, help them complete their Part 1 forms, following through with the client to the end of their booklets. Assist with any forms or situations such as CPP disability packages and reconsideration packages from the Ministry of Social Development. Assist with any other issues that may arise for clients in the office.

Office Assistant – When time allows or help is needed, you will work in office administration. Such items may include; answering phones, making appointments, helping to deliver medical equipment, walking to the Post Office to mail items, filing and organization, attending to the front desk.

We are a small office that consists of close working relationships. Our ideal candidate will be a good team player, unafraid to take on any role. We need someone that is easy going and upbeat, able to handle some tense situations, act instinctively and remain calm at all times.
