CHILD SAFETY MANAGER

PURPOSE: Reporting to the Lalum’utul’ Smun’eem’ Executive Director, the successful candidate will be required to provide supervision to Child Safety Team Members, ensure compliance with delegated responsibilities and program activities, and consult with internal and external resources. This is a full-time permanent position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in recruitment and lead orientation of new team members
  • Complete annual performance evaluations for all team members
  • Manage and document employee complaints, follow up steps, and discipline given
  • Debrief with Child Safety Team staff regarding program activities
  • Provide professional guidance and support to staff when professional concerns arise
  • Knowledge and awareness of Cowichan Tribes Human Resources Policy, Lalum’utul’ Smun’eem Policy, and to ensure staff compliance with all internal / external policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance of delegated responsibilities and program activities
  • Ensure all case management notes are completed thoroughly, entered into CFS Best Practice
  • File review and case consultation on a monthly basis
  • Ensure culture/strength based approaches are implemented in an appropriate manner within the program
  • Participate in the after-hours rotation, track and document after-hours schedule for Child Safety Team Social Workers, and supervisors for consult as required
  • Prepare court documents and attend court proceedings as needed
  • Consult with internal and external resources
  • Participate in agency managers’ meetings, lead Child Safety Team meetings and other meetings as required
  • Participate in a variety of internal and external committees and working groups as directed by the Executive Director
  • Case consult with internal programs and the Ministry of Child and Family Development as needed
  • Complete and receive file transfers from the Ministry of Child and Family Development when appropriate
  • Collaborate with other Delegated Agencies to receive family information, and identify potential child placements when appropriate

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (please attach all required documents)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care (CYC) or Social Work (SW) or equivalent
  • 5-years’ experience in Child and Family Services field with 3-years management experience
  • C6 Delegation required
  • Criminal Record Check (C.R.C) required

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the Child, Family, and Community Service Act and other applicable legislation, such as AOPSI, Structured Decision Making (SDM), Chapter 3, Out of Care options, and Signs of Safety
  • Knowledge of Cowichan language, culture, and teachings
  • Knowledge of available Lalum’utul Smun’eem internal and external resources
  • Well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask different tasks simultaneously
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings
